Future Leaders Institute
The Office of Student Life is committed to developing student leaders at TSC. The TSC Future Leaders Institute is designed for students interested in building their leadership skills and confidence while actively participating in our vibrant campus community.
What is the TSC Future Leaders Institute?
The TSC Future Leaders Institute is a free, non-transcript certificate program at Tallahassee State College focused on developing students into active leaders and positive change-makers. Students may begin the program anytime, and completing the requirements is self-paced. To meet the diverse needs of TSC students, the program will:
- Build on your leadership experience by guiding you through expanded topics in leadership, including servant leadership, ethical leadership, articulating a vision, and developing a personal leadership philosophy.
- Students must complete four in-person Leadership Workshops, participate in a Leadership Retreat, and complete the Self-Guided Modules in the Student Resilience Project portal, and a capstone project of choice.
- Students who complete all components will receive a TSC Leadership Certificate and a TSC Leadership medal (which can be worn at graduation) and will be honored at the Student Life Celebration in March.
What is leadership?
TSC Future Leaders Institute's guiding principles are the act of guiding, influencing, and directing a group of people toward a common goal. It involves setting a vision, making decisions, and motivating others to achieve objectives. Effective leadership requires communication, empathy, integrity, decisiveness, and the ability to inspire trust. Leadership styles can vary, from authoritative to collaborative, depending on the leader's approach and the organization's or group's needs.
Ultimately, leadership is about having authority and empowering others to succeed and grow.
