April 26, 2022

TCC Eagle Connections IconTallahassee Community College is now accepting applications for the Fall 2022 cohort of Eagle Connections. Applications close on May 2, 2022.

Eagle Connections is a program dedicated to assisting students with intellectual disabilities transition into a  postsecondary institution. The program includes a course study with academic enrichment, socialization, and  personal and career development materials to promote employment and independence. The program offers the Employment Credential which is comprised of required core courses and electives chosen by the student based on their career interests within a college pathway. Students usually take two courses per semester, with the goal of completing the program within two.

A typical semester consists of attending classes, study time, life skills lessons, and social opportunities. Students regularly meet with program staff for one-on-one meetings to work toward person-centered planning goals using the Students Transitioning to Adult Roles (STAR) model from Project 10 Transition Education Network. Students in the program have multiple student supports like the program coordinator, program specialist, and peer mentors. Additionally, the program relies heavily on the efforts from other departments like Student Accessibility Services, Student Services, Academic Affairs, and more. Students can also participate in TCC clubs, organizations, and events and are encouraged to utilize the Library, Learning Commons and Learning Specialists, Counseling Center, Career Services, gym, and faculty office hours.

“We are excited to welcome the next group of Eagle Connections students to TCC! Students can experience all the great learning opportunities available and grow in confidence, capabilities, and character,” says Amanda Warren, Program Coordinator.

To be eligible for this program, students must be at least 18 years old, have a documented Intellectual Disability, graduated high school or obtained a GED, and have employment and community participation goals.
