Tallahassee Community College is launching its latest initiative, an Electrical Pre-apprenticeship program. The pre-apprenticeship program will afford prospective students ages 16–24 an opportunity to explore an in-demand career option as an apprentice and a future in the electrical industry by experiencing first-hand training that will develop their skills, confidence, and professional connections needed to be successful.
“Apprenticeships are a fantastic way for students and young adults to learn a skill that will benefit them throughout their lifetime,” said Kimberly Moore, Vice President for Workforce Innovation & TCC2WORK/Be Essential. “Trades and apprenticeships in general provide a direct pathway to the middle-class and a fulfilling career in an industry that is in need of a skilled workforce.”
TCC is partnering with IEC Florida West Coast to provide participants with career skills and training from industry experts, an opportunity to earn industry recognized credentials, hands-on training and much more. It is projected through 2027, Florida will need over 43,000 electricians to meet its workforce needs.
“IEC is honored and excited to expand our partnership with TCC to provide a pre-apprenticeship program,” said Natasha Sherwood, Executive Director, IEC Florida West Coast. “The program will prepare Floridians to enter the much-needed skilled labor workforce and continue into our 4-year apprentice program leading to a lucrative Journeyman Electrician License! Providing education at no cost to the student while contributing to our state economy is a win for IEC, TCC and the state of Florida. The Governor’s Pathways to Careers Grant is an amazing example of public and private entities working together to benefit everyone.”
TCC is accepting applications for two cohorts that will be served over the next nine months. Limited spots are available. The program starts in October. There is no tuition cost for the program and the earned industry certifications are recognized throughout the U.S.
Applicants for the program must:
