The Office of International Student Services at Tallahassee Community College is excited to announce the upcoming events for the 2020 Virtual International Education Week celebration. The events will take place virtually from today, Nov. 16 – Friday, Nov. 20. The community is welcomed to attend the event by visiting www.tcc.fl.edu/iew. Participants must register for the individual events of interest and then a Zoom invite and link to the event will be emailed.
Parade of Nations:
This opening ceremony will kick off TCC's week-long celebration of International Education Week. TCC's international students will display their country's flag as their virtual background in Zoom and introducing themselves in their native language. A speech by Dr. Murdaugh will introduce attendees to IEW and start off the celebrations! Guest speakers and videos will showcase special international programs on campus such as the Global Gateway Program and the Model UN Program.
World Chef Cooking Demonstrations:
Sample the world through a cooking demonstration where students and staff from Nepal, Jamaica, Colombia and Nigeria, show attendees how to prepare traditional cuisines from their home countries for lunch or dinner. Recipes will be emailed a week before the cooking show, so attendees can cook along with others. A slideshow or video about the culture, foods, traditions and country will be presented as well to complement the cooking, where the best kind of conversation is done over a table full of food!
World Trivia Night:
Put your international knowledge to the test at the World Trivia Night! Join the Global Council and International Student Services for trivia and prizes. Topics will span the globe in geography, culture and global affairs.
Virtual World Tour:
Visit the wonderful world of Ghana w/ TCC faculty, Professor Forster Agama, and Iceland w/ TCC faculty, Professor Brian Kupfer, as they take you on a virtual tour with their study abroad students, to these amazing countries. No passport is required!
International Coffee Hour at FSU:
Our final event for 2020 Virtual International Education Week celebration is an International Coffee Hour to be held on Friday, Nov. 20 at 5 p.m. with Florida State University. Guests will have the opportunity to mingle with FSU international students and American students who have studied abroad or have an interest in international exchange and other global opportunities.
For many years, the International Student Services department and TCC has proudly hosted many successful events during the annual weeklong celebration of International Education Week, to support TCC’s efforts to create and promote programs of global focus – the culmination of many years of collective efforts by administrators, faculty and staff to position TCC as a truly diverse campus, engaged fully in understanding the world’s challenges and opportunities, and preparing our students for global citizenship.
This year, TCC is commemorating the 15th year the College is celebrating International Education Week.
