FDOT Grant Funded Courses
FDOT classes are grant funded for all sworn Florida law enforcement officers. Due to specific federal funding restrictions, federal employees, state correctional officers, or non-sworn personnel cannot be covered under this tuition waiver. However, consideration may be granted based on availability. Prior to registering online, the above-listed personnel should contact us at [email protected] to obtain approval. Upon approval, personnel may attend and a tuition fee may apply.
Prior to registering, approval MUST be obtained by appropriate agency personnel. Online registration for the attending officer should be made by a supervisor or training officer.
Lodging and Meals
Tuition is covered under the grant for all FDOT classes. On-site lodging and meals are paid in full by the grant only for classes held at FPSI in Havana, FL and the student is traveling more than 50 miles. For classes not held on FPSI's campus, meals and lodging will be the responsibility of the officer's agency.

Traffic Safety Courses
Advanced Traffic Homicide Investigation
Course Description
The student will learn additional laws of physics that apply to speed, acceleration, and friction forces. The dynamics of a vehicle in motion with respect to airborne situations such as falls, vaults, and flips will be covered. An introduction to linear momentum will complete this vehicle dynamics section. The student will also learn to analyze impact damages as it relates to vehicle and occupant movement.
This course is ideal for the Law Enforcement Professional on a career track to become a traffic crash reconstructionist. An exercise in the measurement of vehicle crush deformation will be conducted.

Prerequisite(s)
To attend this training, the participant must be Florida law enforcement or public safety personnel (sworn or non-sworn*) whose duties include the investigation of traffic crashes or support of crash investigators. Students must have successfully completed Basic Traffic Homicide or its equivalent. An equivalent would be "At Scene Traffic Crash Invest." Certificates from an equivalent course will be required.
*If you are a non-sworn member with a law enforcement agency, the FPSI Civilian Waiver Request must be submitted with the registration process.
What should I bring?
All materials for classwork will be provided for this course. Please bring any measuring equipment for outdoor projects (Survey type equipment is not needed)

Basic Traffic Homicide Investigation
Course Description
The student will be refreshed on their duties and responsibilities at the scene of a crash. The student will learn how to identify evidence found on the roadway and from the vehicle. An introduction to some of the essential mathematical calculations and physical laws will be given. Also, the student will learn how to measure and diagram and how to use photography and video to document the scene. The student will also participate in practical exercises involving measuring and diagramming.

Crash Scene Mapping Using Speed Laser Technology
Course Description
The student will learn additional laws of physics that apply to speed, acceleration, and friction forces. This course will teach the student how to map a crash scene efficiently. The student will learn the geometric concepts of points, lines, and curves. The nomenclature of the mapping equipment, along with the proper setup, and leveling, will be covered. This class has an intensive hands-on element, and students will map numerous scenes under instructor guidance.

What should I bring?
Students will be learning the Laser Technology Map Star System. It is recommended that at least one system per every three students for an agency is brought with them to class. Additional spare systems will be very limited. If you would like to bring your own laptop computer, you are welcome to do so.

Speed Measurement Course
Course Description
This is the CJSTC and FDLE-certified course for speed measurement. The student will become a certified operator of Doppler radar and laser equipment.

During training, the student is expected to attend the entire class. Absence due to medical, family, or agency requirements must be approved by the instructor and made up on the student's own time. The maximum time that may be made up is 10%. If more than 10% is missed, the student will be withdrawn from training.

Speed Measurement Instructor
Course Description
This course will provide training in both radar and laser speed measurement devices and prepare the student instructor to present the “Florida Laser / Radar Operator Course” for certification of attendees. The student instructor will learn the different scientific principles, proper operation, and various aspects of equipment used such as testing and verification protocols, case law, health issues, and many other operational considerations. Students will also take part in teaching exercises that emphasize the need for complete equipment familiarity on the part of the operator.
Salary Incentive
This course does not qualify for Salary Incentive Credit by the FDLE Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission Standards.

- Attendee must be a certified Florida Law Enforcement Officer
- Completion of Instructor Techniques, Laser Radar Operator, and three years experience with radar and laser (FDLE Requirement)

Breath Test Operator Course
Course Description
This 16-hour course reviews the rules for obtaining and analyzing breath samples during breath testing and meets the requirements to certify the breath test operator’s permit using the Intoxilyzer 8000 series instrument.
Training will include the role of the breath test operator, the instrumentation used to analyze breath test samples, how to properly obtain reliable breath samples, and the proper way to administer a breath test using the Intoxilyzer 8000.
Salary Incentive

- Attendee must be a certified Florida Law Enforcement Officer or Non-Sworn employed by a law enforcement agency
